Although a busy ferry route in the southeast of Sweden, there is just the one ferry company that operates out of Kapellskar year round.

Viking Line is the sole operator; a well-established passenger and car ferry company which operates two routes to Finnish destinations from Kapellskar.

Viking Line provides two daily return crossings between Kapellskar and Mariehamn with a crossing time of 2 hours, 30 minutes, and daily crossings between Kapellskar and Turku in the summer; crossing time 10 hours. Both of these services are efficient and operate year round.

The MS Alandsfärjan is a conventional ferry that runs both of these routes. It has the capacity to carry nearly 1,000 passengers and 180 cars and has extensive facilities, including: comfortable public lounges, a well stocked duty-free shop with numerous quality items available, a popular restaurant, a café, bar, and even a children's play area.
